Anne Hathaway stars in Colleen Hoover’s next book-to-screen adaptation

Anne Hathaway will star as the lead in “Verity,” the next book-to-screen adaptation from popular author Colleen Hoover.
An Amazon spokesperson confirmed that Hathaway will reunite with Director Michael Showalter (“Big Sick” and “The Eyes of Tammy Faye”) for the film, developed by Amazon MGM Studios.
Hathaway and Showalter most recently worked together on Amazon’s “The Idea of You,” released in March. The current script for “Verity” is written by Nick Antosca, who co-wrote and produced Hulu’s “The Act,” a docudrama series about Gypsy Rose Blanchard. Hathaway will play the character Verity Crawford in the film.
Producers of the film include Hoover, Hathaway, Showalter, Alex Hedlund (“The Great Wall” and “As Above, So Below”), Jordana Mollick (“The Love Birds”) and Stacey Sher (“Django Unchained” and “Erin Brockovich”), an Amazon spokesperson told USA TODAY.
The film follows the success of Hoover’s first book-to-screen adaptation of “It Ends With Us,” which released in August. Starring Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni, the film grossed $349.5 million worldwide against a production budget of $25 million, according to Box Office Mojo.
Self-published by Hoover in 2018, “Verity” follows the story of a struggling writer named Lowen Ashleigh who accepts “the job offer of a lifetime” on the brink of financial ruin. Ashleigh begins to work for Jeremy Crawford, the husband of successful author Verity Crawford. Ashleigh is tasked with writing the remainder of the books in an unfinished series by Verity, who’s recent death is a mystery.
Upon arriving to the Crawford estate, Ashleigh learns that things are not as they seem. She discovers a secret through an unfinished manuscript that may clear up chilling truths about the family’s past. As she continues her work, Ashleigh must determine if Verity’s writings are purely fiction or the warnings of a psychopath.
An expected release date has yet to be announced for the film.
